Transportation

Becoming Independent operates two transportation programs. A fleet of over 60 vans and mini-buses - a familiar presence on roads in the three-county BI service area - takes people to and from their homes and jobs, BI program sites and to community events. An additional service, the BI-EXPRESS, provides a critical weekend and evening service for people with disabilities who don't have access to alternative transportation during those times.

The ultimate goal of BI-EXPRESS is to reduce the social isolation that many individuals face when transportation is either nonexistent or a significant challenge for those wishing to get out of their home in the evening or on the weekend. This program continually demonstrates its usefulness as the link to the community that allows people to successfully live independently.
